How to Set iPhone to Automatically Answer Phone Calls

Before iPhones were invented, some Nokia handsets and some feature mobiles had the choice to auto answer an incoming call on the user’s behalf. With the advent of iOS 11, your phone supports the same features as well. Rather than using Siri, this option prompts your phone’s inbuilt Phone app to pick up the call for you. The feature is obviously optional and works with all kinds of calls including the voice calls, Wi-Fi calls, Face Time audio calls and VoIP calls from apps such as WhatsApp and Skype that integrate with stock Phone app via Apple’s Callkit framework.

When to use Auto Answer Calls?

You may want to use the ability for your iPhone to automatically answer your incoming calls at your behalf whenever you would like to use phone hands-free. For example- If you are driving a car that doesn't have Car Play or while working at a gym or while listening to music. You may be tempted to try out this handy capability. If you use Apple Watch, the Auto Answer call should come in handy in a bunch of other situations. If you would rather pick and choose what you want, this new feature won't suit your needs.

How to set iPhone to auto answer the calls?

1.       Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
2.       Click General-Accessibility-Call Audio Routing.
3.       Hit Auto Answer Calls at the bottom of Call Audio Routing screen.
4.       On the next screen, slide Auto Answer Calls switch to ON position. This feature is disabled by default.
5.       Optionally, you can set duration of time for which your iPhone will wait until the call is auto-answered.
6.       Close the Settings app.

Do Not Disturb Mode and Auto Answer Calls.

Auto Answer mode plays well with iOS’ do Not Disturb mode.
When Auto Answer is used in conjunction with Do Not Disturb, your iPhone stills answers the incoming calls from contacts in your Favorites.

1.       Go to the Settings App.
2.       Click on Do Not Disturb.
3.       Enable Do Not Disturb, either by toggling Manual switch or by setting up custom schedule by sliding Scheduled switch to ON position, set hours for DND.
4.       Click the Allow Calls From option on Do Not Disturb screen.
5.       Click the Favorites option.
6.       Close Settings App.

This will allow calls and messages from favorites contacts through while they Do Not Disturb is on.

Combined with Auto Answer setting, your iPhone will automatically answer all incoming calls when not using Do Not Disturb. Just the incoming calls from Phone’s Favorites will get auto-answered when the iPhone is in Do Not Disturb mode.
